Something to consider…

Ssellers and buyers are now realizing the advantages of selling their property at auctions. As far as sellers, they avoid the endless number of showings and last minute showings and advantages for buyers, they know they are purchasing the property at fair market value.

October has arrived, and so have a number of new laws affecting North Carolina residents.

One of the new laws gives domestic violence victims more protection in landlord-tenant situations. “This bill makes North Carolina the second state in the country to have a comprehensive landlord-tenant law to protect victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking,” said Beth Froehling, public policy specialist for the N.C. Coalition Against Domestic Violence. “The main provisions are that the bill prohibits discrimination by landlords. It also allows victims to change their lock on their dwelling units.”

A survey this week shows that homeowners have little regard for talk of a housing bubble. Better than one-half expect that the value of their homes will increase at least 5% annually over the next several years. That’s not a bad guess given home prices historically have risen a percentage point or two higher than inflation every year.

Items worth considering for us beach lovers.

Those of us fortunate enough to live on the coast don’t rely entirely on our own tax base and economy. Government subsidies, tax codes and insurance benefits let us live beyond our means. There are dozens of federal and state taxpayer-funded subsidies that benefit coastal development. Coastal homeowners don’t pay full price for wind and flood insurance. Expensive highways and bridges, water and sewer services, and beaches get constant infusions of public funds to build and rebuild.
